At 6:40 in the morning, an illustrative cocoa farmer named Ama stands beside a sprayer at the edge of her farm. Her gloves are tucked into the pocket of her faded apron. She has a container with a partly rubbed-off label in one hand and her phone in the other.
She records a Twi voice note asking how much of the product to mix, when she can enter the field again, and whether she can harvest pods after spraying.
Those details decide whether advice is safe. A wrong dosage could harm Ama, damage the crop, or leave her carrying pods that should not be harvested yet. Silence leaves her with the same uncertainty, but confident guesswork would be worse.
AgriVoice can recognize the question as pesticide-related and search its reviewed content blocks. It does not write new agronomy advice. It selects from material that has been translated into speakable Asante Twi and reviewed for the situation at hand.

The boundary appears before the answer

A phrase can be swallowed by wind, clipped by a weak connection, or mixed with English product terms. The safe response must account for uncertainty instead of smoothing it away.
In this scenario, AgriVoice finds no reviewed block that verifies the product’s dosage and intervals. It does not convert a partial match into a recommendation. It marks the question for escalation.
The farmer should hear a clear Twi response that explains the next step in plain language: do not guess the mixture or return time, keep the container available, and wait for the extension response. The point is not to make the system sound cautious. The point is to stop an unsafe instruction from reaching a farm.

Responsibility moves to a person, with context intact
A safe escalation needs an owner before a farmer ever sends the voice note. For an AgriVoice pilot, a cocoa-sector partner must recruit participants and name the extension officer who receives escalations.
In Ama’s illustrative case, that officer is Kojo Mensah, assigned by the pilot partner before the cohort begins. His name is part of the operating plan, not a name generated after the question arrives.
The escalation should give him the original Twi audio, the available transcript, the selected safety context, and the reason the system declined to answer. He needs enough information to assess the product and the farmer’s immediate risk without asking Ama to repeat every detail from the beginning.
That record also protects the boundary. An officer can see that the system did not prescribe a chemical treatment, dosage, re-entry period, or harvest interval. The handoff is a transfer of responsibility, with the uncertainty visible.
A queue with no owner turns “we will escalate this” into a polite dead end. A named officer, a clear route, and a response-time commitment make the promise testable.
The answer changes hands just in time
Ama has not mixed the product. She has set the sprayer down beside the cocoa trees and kept the container nearby.
Later, the extension officer replies with guidance based on the product information and the conditions he needs to verify. If the label remains unclear, he can tell her what to bring or photograph, or direct her to pause use. The answer comes from the person qualified to give it.
The next morning, Ama is no longer deciding between silence and an unverified instruction. She knows who holds the question and what information is still needed. That is a concrete change, even before the final agronomy advice arrives.

AgriVoice is preparing for a two-week pilot with 20 to 50 cocoa farmers, subject to strict entry gates. Those gates include reviewed Twi content, agronomist review for held chemical blocks, real farmer voice questions for speech recognition measurement, a working WhatsApp route, and a named extension officer.
The three chemical blocks currently held for expert review show why the process exists. They lack verified dosage, re-entry, and pre-harvest information. Keeping them unavailable is an intentional safety decision.

A named human escalation path puts those ideas into one practical moment: the voice system carries the question in Twi, then a responsible local professional takes over when the evidence runs out.
